Round Tailed Ground Squirrel Eating from Cactus Fruit

Round Tailed Ground Squirrel Eating from Cactus Fruit

Shot in Tucson, Arizona, there was an entire family of these beautiful little creatures running around and literally “ripping” the fruits of the cactus.

Info about this creature:
The round-tailed ground squirrel is a small rodent native to the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It has a sandy-brown coat that blends with its arid environment, and as its name suggests, it sports a short, rounded tail. These squirrels are active during the day and spend much of their time foraging for seeds, grasses, and insects. Well adapted to hot climates, they often enter a state of estivation during the peak of summer to avoid extreme heat. Social and vocal, they use high-pitched calls to warn others of predators like hawks and snakes.
